Celebrating Dr. Dolan for an Amazing 19 Years of Service and Friendship
It is with the sincerest gratitude that we honor our friend and colleague, Dr. Robert Dolan, as he officially retires from Gastroenterology of the Rockies on August 26th.
Dr. Dolan began his undergraduate studies with a swimming scholarship to Vanderbilt University. He soon realized he had a passion to attend medical school and gave up his swimming to focus full-time on his academics. After graduating as the class valedictorian, which was a surprise to his family, he was then accepted into the Vanderbilt Medical School. Upon his graduation from medical school, he went on to complete his residency at the National Naval Medical Center, and then his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of South Florida. After the completion of his fellowship, he and his wife Amy moved their young and growing family of three boys to Greeley, Colorado in 1992.
Dr. Dolan was actively recruited by Gastroenterology of the Rockies founder Dr. Joel Montbriand for a few years before joining the practice on April 21st 2003. He was the 6th doctor hired by the practice and he worked alongside current senior providers Dr. Steve Chetham and Dr. Matthew Karowe. As Gastroenterology of the Rockies entered a period of rapid growth and expansion, Dr. Dolan was then selected to help open and grow the now very successful Denver West location.
Dr. Dolan has always been respected by his colleagues for his expertise in GI as he is rumored to know the formal name of every eponymous gastrointestinal disease. Dr. Dolan has also been committed to continually learning and growing his knowledge of gastroenterology as he is an avid weekly reader of GI publications and keeps current with the latest news and information. Many doctors have consulted with Bob over the years to tap into his extensive knowledge.
We also appreciated Dr. Dolan’s quick wit and sassy sarcasm over the years. Many of his colleagues can agree (if not all of them) that Dr. Dolan was never one to shy away from having fun or offering a funny rebuttal. In fact, many times when Dr. Dolan received a call at home, he would respond back to patients in a slow, southern accent, pretending to have a southern drawl. When his family asked him why he was speaking in an eclectic accent, he would jokingly respond by saying that his patients understood him better!
Some additional fun facts about Dr. Dolan is that he is an avid user of Duolingo, the language learning app, and uses it for German lessons every night. This again highlights his eagerness to continually learn new things. Dr. Dolan is also very passionate about skiing, as he has owned a home in Vail for almost 30 years and thoroughly enjoys the mountains. He also enjoys beer, obviously a part of his German heritage, and he has a sweet tooth – he is rumored to be an ice cream sandwich-a-holic!
We wish Dr. Dolan a fond farewell this month as he ‘skis off into the sunset’ as he and his wife Amy will be moving to their home in Vail, Colorado.
Thank you Dr. Dolan for your wisdom and guidance over the past 19 years in helping build Gastroenterology of the Rockies into the successful practice that it is today.
In our best German:
Wir Werden Dich Vermissen!
