Colon polyps are a group of cells on the lining of the colon or rectum. There are two types of polyps: precancerous (neoplastic) and non-precancerous (non-neoplastic).

Precancerous polyps may grow into colorectal cancer (CRC).
Non-precancerous polyps typically do not turn into cancer.

Most colon cancers develop from colon polyps.

Symptoms of colon polyps-sometimes none. This is sometimes referred to as “silent symptoms.”

Symptoms

Associated symptoms depend on the size or stage of advancement. This is why early detection is so important. Some people will not realize they have colon cancer. For other people, here are some hallmark symptoms.

  • Bloody Stool
  • Changes in bowel habits
  • Constipation or diarrhea
